Bad News Everyone...
Hayley geared up yesterday to go for a nice off-road run, but just a few miles into the run felt a sharp pain in her left foot. She hobbled home and once we were able to get her shoe off, noticed some pretty heavy swelling. Looks as though she may be dealing with a small stress fracture. At this point I'm keeping my mouth shut, because I know she'll probably throw something in the direction of my head if I even slightly mention the thought that she may not be in any condition to run with us in two weeks, but I need to get that thought out there to everyone. Right now, we are rotating the ice and heat very heavily, with lots of rest, light messages and ibuprofen. We are going to test it out a little this weekend and see where we are at.
In the meantime, we are trying to locate a long-time family friend in Utah that may be able to step in last minute if Hayley is not ready. He's a close friend of Eric and I from NJ that would do very well if we needed him to step in. I'm trying to locate his contact info, but may have to wait to talk it over with Eric when he gets back from England next week.
Hayley is very upset right now, so please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. If she ends up feeling somewhat better by next week, I think she'd still like to plan on riding in the Vans with us and walk or jog a few sections of her assigned legs, hoping that between the rest of us, we could step in if she needed to rest the foot. Otherwise, if it's too risky, we'll need to have a substitute ready to go. Running is a huge part of her life, and she's not ready to throw in the towel. Stubborn Italian Women!!

I want to run. I will rest it for the next week or so and see how it feels the week before the race.

Hey Hayley, we just saw Ryan Cameron tonight and if you were not able to run with us, his ankle is better now (after a couple months off) so he can take your place if that is the case. Just a heads up. Anyway we hope that is not the case and that you can run with us as before planned.
ReplyDeleteKeep resting, and let us know what you think.
